Dedication to my craft
My brother is good friends with the guys from Cut Copy and he rang to tell us that Mitch has two free tickets if we want it. Sadly there is three of us living in this house who would KILL to go let a lone see Duran Duran live... and thus I turned down my rights to the tickets because I have so much stuff I need to be making :(
But on a lighter- less musical- note, La La Orange (awesomely funky store in Northbridge) is interested in stocking some of my jewelery! So I have that to work forward to instead!

Unwrapped Market!
The Unwrapped market for artists in South Perth was busier than we expected! We were so unprepared too, we ran out of bags and had to run over to the local super market for more change within the first couple of hours. Over all it was a success and really interesting to see all the great works that each of the different artists had to offer.

And for my next trick...
'Unwrapped' is being held in three days.
Between holidays in Melbourne, moving house, weddings and working full time, I am quietly okay with the fact that I haven't got much prepared for it.
I have enough to fill the table and there are a few new paintings but I had hoped to have a few exciting new things ready to unveil. Instead all I have are a few faded sketches that exist only in my head. I'm pretty excited about it though, I wallet wants to lose some of it's winter weight! I visited an awesome gallery called Outre in Melbourne and nearly bought a couple of prints but decided I should wait and spend my money on some originals by local artists instead :)
You know actually, I lied. I do have one cool new item ready for Unwrapped. It's an Ice Queen Ring that looks exactly like an ice block. I've only had time to make a couple so far but hopefully I should have a few more made up soon! YAY!

Torn from Melbourne.
I arrived back in Perth last night and I must say, that as much as I loved Melbourne I'm glad to be home :)
There is something about the crisp air in Perth and the sparkling clean streets that makes me really appreciate this city. I WILL however miss the cool Melboune weather and the creative buzz that I had the entire time I was there. Melbourne oozes of potencial oppertunity for artists of all types.
This is some of the stuff we saw over there:

All wrapped up in Melbourne!
WE MADE IT TO MELBOURNE!!!! And having the time of our lives I must add :)
There is something about the dusty, greyness in Melbourne that makes you really appreciate the clean streets and crisp blue skies of Perth but gawd damn. There are so many facets to this city that you just want to keep running until you trip over a circus, or fall in to magic wardrobe or slip on fairy dust!
I've caught up with some old friends already who have each showed us some awesome stuff (including the world's best jam donuts from the Footscray station. This little old couple sit in this super, dodgy van, there is never a moment when someone isn't at this van, people come from other suburbs JUST for these donuts and they don't make any other kind of donut, just jam)
We also had the best pizza I've ever tasted at Le Niche Cafe where we saw John Clarke and Dash giggled like a school girl.
I also found some REALLY cheap jewelery displays!!!! Which will come in handy because I've been accepted in to the Unwrapped Market for Artists! YAYAYAYAYAY!!!
My brother is a big time artist in Melbourne and was invited to an exhibition opening last night but we were too tired to go with him in the end. The exhibition was for Graeme Base (of Animalia fame)'s wife. So learning our lesson, were going to try take it easy today so that we still have energy for a party tonight :P

Spray it! don't Say it!
There's a fine line between graffiti and art and one person's art is easily someone else's graffiti.
I used to dabble in a little paste up a few years ago in my juvenile delinquent stage but I only pasted up pictures and always made sure it was easy to wash off if the authorities wanted to do so. I saw this a little while a go on one of my visits to Behind The Monkey in Mt Lawley and saw this on one of the side fences.
There's quite a lot of over spray but it still has the same effect as intended. I thought it was hilarious!
I also have a friend who proves that you can still be a graffiti artist and remain on the right side of the law who goes by the name of Kid Zoom. He does a lot of work that is not only approved but also paid for, every child's dream! He also has a lot of exhibitions all over Australia so keep and eye out for him.
I have ONE more paste up I've been dying to do since I saw the location but I haven't had the time. I'll keep you posted though ;)

Queen of my heart.
Rapped about Unwrapped
I applied for a spot at the Unwrapped market for artists on the closing date just mere hours from midnight - therefore 'technically' still beating the deadline. Well at least I had hoped so and luckily enough I received an email saying my application had been received.
I'm not sure when we find out if we're accepted but seeing as this is still only first round offers and the market is not until March I'm not holding on to my hat (mostly because I don't wear hats)
I do hope I get in though, because if it was anything like the PICA (Perth Institute for Contemporary Art) car boot sale for artists it should be all sorts of fun!!!

She's like the wind.
This year is blowing me away!
It's going by so quickly. January is almost gone and I haven't achieved much.
I am looking forward to going to Big Day Out though and seeing Bjork and Arcade Fire!!! then after one day at work and I'm off to Melbourne for a week!!!! My first plane trip and first time out of Western Australia :)
I don't have much planned except to have fun, catch up with friends and soak in the culture. Possibly go down to 696 and see my work hanging up (maybe take photos of my, and Ali J's stuff hanging while I'm there heheh)
So while I've had a very unproductive first month for the year I have to say I'm extremely grateful to Aunty Evil for getting me off my butt to do a couple of paintings... including this one:
